After months and months of desperation from users – wait, no: Claude Opus 5 was launched just on July 24 – which means that not even two months (!) have passed until its successor is in.
Also in this period, Fable 5.1 was launched (which means 2 top models launched by Anthropic in 2 months) and also competitors were fierce model deployers.
The pace is huge!
But back to the announcement of Opus 5.5 – this modus operandi was already seen: the announcement is made, benchmarks shown are (of course) great and model performance is even better than the flagship Fable 5.1. All of this for a smaller price than his predecessor: a definitely impressive 20% reduction in general, and a 60% (!!) reduction in cache reads.
Result: the hype builds up! And the internet is reacting positively.
A little outside of the hype, the point I want to draw your attention to in the announcement: Anthropic has addressed the problem of the verbosity and (bad) prose of Opus 5, and Opus 5.5 seems to be more “human friendly”.
Specially for the verbosity, the announcement’s “Explaining a bug” example is indicative of the much smaller verbosity of Opus 5.5.
But the one that stuck with me was the “Explain a design change” you can see in the image: much simpler terms to describe a code design change made. And I believe that if one wants to dig technically deeper, will be able to do so – it’s just not the default mode.
